About Birke & Sons Dumpster Rental

A Huntingdon-based roll-off dumpster company built on straight pricing, on-time drops, and knowing our own streets — from downtown near the Standing Stone to farm country out along the Juniata Valley.

Birke & Sons Dumpster Rental Huntingdon got its start the way a lot of hauling companies do in central Pennsylvania — with a truck, a handful of roll-off boxes, and a simple bet that homeowners and contractors around Huntingdon were tired of dealing with national call centers that couldn’t tell Huntingdon Borough from a subdivision three counties over. We set up out of a yard on Warm Springs Ave, not far from the Juniata River and the borough’s own Standing Stone landmark, and worked outward from there, one job at a time.

We’re not a franchise and we’re not a lead-generation front passing your job off to a stranger’s truck. When you call our number, you get someone who actually works in this business, who can tell you whether your project needs a 10 yard or a 20 yard, and who knows whether your address falls inside Huntingdon Borough’s street-occupancy permit process or not. That’s the whole idea — a dumpster company run by people who are actually from here.

As the fleet grew and we added more sizes and more routes, the day-to-day approach didn’t change. We still quote jobs in plain, flat-rate language up front, we still show up in the window we promise, and we still treat a homeowner clearing out a garage in Huntingdon the same way we treat a contractor running a multi-dumpster job out toward Mount Union. Bigger fleet, same habits.

Today the team serves Huntingdon Borough and Huntingdon County towns like Mount Union, Mapleton, Alexandria, Petersburg, Orbisonia, Three Springs, and Shirleysburg, along with towns further out like Saxton, Everett, Bedford, McConnellsburg, Tyrone, Port Matilda, Lewistown, McVeytown, and Belleville. We’re still a phone call, not a call center.

How We Work

Booking is meant to be simple. You call, tell us what you’re working on and where the truck needs to go, and we tell you which size fits the job and when we can get it there. We ask about your placement up front — driveway, yard, or public street — because that decision affects everything from where the box sits to whether a Huntingdon Borough street-occupancy permit needs to be sorted out before it shows up. See our full list of services or compare dumpster sizes before you call if it helps to look things over first.

When the dumpster arrives, our driver sets it where it does the least damage to your property and the most good for your project — boards under the rails when they’re needed, a rundown of what can and can’t go in the box, and a clear pickup date. No surprise fees buried in fine print, no upsell pitch when you’re standing in your driveway trying to finish a cleanout.

Our Equipment & Fleet

We run roll-off trucks and a range of 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 yard containers sized for the mix of properties across the Huntingdon area — tight in-town lots around the borough’s downtown core, standard driveways in Mount Union and Mapleton, and spread-out farm acreage on the rural fringe toward Three Springs and Orbisonia. Our boxes are kept in working condition and matched to the job, whether that’s a small driveway cleanout or a multi-box construction site. Keeping the fleet in good shape and matched to real local lot conditions is part of how we keep drop times predictable.

Values in Practice

Being licensed and insured, and pulling the right permits when a job calls for one, isn’t a marketing line for us — it’s what keeps a homeowner from getting a notice about a dumpster sitting on a Huntingdon street without paperwork. We handle that side of it so customers don’t have to learn a permit process just to rent a dumpster. Honest pricing means the flat rate we quote on the phone is the number on the invoice, not a lowball that grows once the box is already sitting on your property.

Part of the Community

We’re out on Huntingdon Borough streets and in Mount Union, Mapleton, and every other town on our list every week, which means we see the same neighborhoods, the same contractors, and often the same repeat customers — remodelers who call us for every flip, homeowners who call us every time they tackle another room. Staying local isn’t just a tagline; it’s how we’ve learned which driveways are tight, which towns want their own permit call made first, and which properties need a little extra care when we drop a box.

What we stand for

Six things we do not compromise on

Licensed & Insured

Fully licensed and insured for roll-off hauling in Huntingdon Borough and every town we serve, so you’re covered from drop to pickup.

Honest Pricing

The flat rate you get on the phone is the number on your invoice — no hidden fees added once the dumpster is already sitting on your property.

Reliability & Speed

We show up in the window we promise, and same-day delivery is often available for jobs called in early.

Care for Your Property

Boards under the rails, careful placement, and a driver who treats your driveway or yard the way they’d treat their own.

Local & Community-Focused

A Huntingdon-based crew that knows the Juniata Valley by name, not a national call center reading from a script.

Environmental Responsibility

We steer customers away from illegal disposal — asbestos, e-waste, tires, and other regulated materials never just go in the box.

In the community

Part of Huntingdon, not just working in it

Most of our calls are for placement entirely on private property — a driveway, yard, or parking pad — and that’s unregulated everywhere in our service area; no permit needed, full stop. Where it gets specific is when a dumpster needs to sit in the public right-of-way — a street or sidewalk — inside Huntingdon Borough’s own limits. Borough Code Chapter 21, §21-202 sets out a street-occupancy permit process administered by Borough Council for exactly that situation, and that ordinance is real and codified. What isn’t published anywhere we can find is the actual fee — it’s set by council resolution rather than printed in the ordinance text, and the Borough’s own applications and permits page doesn’t list a specific street-occupancy or dumpster form. We tell every Huntingdon Borough customer to call Borough Hall directly and confirm the current fee before we book street placement, rather than quote a number we can’t verify.

That process is specific to Huntingdon Borough — it doesn’t automatically carry over anywhere else on our route. Pennsylvania’s local government runs borough by borough and township by township, not by county, so Mount Union, Mapleton, Alexandria, Petersburg, Orbisonia, Three Springs, and Shirleysburg are each their own separately incorporated borough with their own council and their own process, and we contact that town’s own borough office directly on a customer’s behalf when a job needs it. The same is true further out — Saxton, Everett, Bedford, McConnellsburg, Tyrone, Port Matilda, and Lewistown and McVeytown each run their own local government. Belleville is different again: it’s an unincorporated community in Union Township, Mifflin County, so right-of-way questions there go through the Township’s Board of Supervisors rather than any borough or county office. Read our full permit guide for more detail, or just call us and we’ll tell you exactly what your address needs.
